4 Things Every Parent Should Know Before Choosing a Dance Studio
If most dance studios seem to have friendly teachers, experience teaching children and a big show at the end of the year, aren't they all pretty much the same? Does it really matter which studio you enroll your child at? Yes. These 4 main things can make a huge difference in the quality of instruction your child receives, the amount of extra work and hassles the parents must deal with, and the overall enjoyment and satisfaction of being involved with a dance program. Here are 4 things every parent should consider before deciding on a dance studio for their child.
1. How do I know my child is receiving professional instruction?
In many studios, younger staff is given the responsibility of training beginner students while they are still just students themselves. The first danger is, of course, that a beginner dancer may be taking lessons from someone who is not reasonably qualified to teach dance. Naturally, a student does not recognize the young teacher's inexperience and will imitate what they see their instructor demonstrating. Which leads us to the second danger, injury. And finally, while the instructor may be an advanced student of study in dance, they are not necessarily and advanced student of study in life experience.
Our studio hires adult instructors with professional experience and/or academic experience. Their passion for making formal education exciting gives your child a great advantage. Our studio's strong focus on dance education tailored to your child's abilities and needs makes our program successful.
2. Do you have a variety of classes & times available?
At our studio, we go out of our way to offer some of our most popular classes on as many different days & times as possible. This allows us to keep the class size smaller. If a dance class has fewer dancers in it, each child will receive more personalized attention, learn more and have more fun. Our smaller class sizes make sure that no fundamental concepts are being missed. A smaller class size also allows our teachers to ensure that students are not developing bad habits or improper technique.
Our studio limits all of our classes (ages 6 and up) to a maximum of just 12 students per class. With our youngest dancers (ages 3 -5) we limit all of our classes to a maximum of 6 dancers per class.

3. What are the ammenties of the facility?
Our facility has 2 full-sized dance studios. Studio A (upstairs) is over 2000sq.ft. and Studio B (downstairs) is over 1300 sq.ft. These well-lit studios have 40ft. of full-length mirrors and wall-mounted ballet barres. The facility is clean, climate controlled, and recently renovated & upgraded.
Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping, twisting and turning. All of our dance rooms have raised wood floors for less stress on the body which allows our students to dance longer with fewer injuries.
We are conveniently located in downtown La Porte next to La Porte Savings Bank on the corner of Lincolnway & Indiana (SR 2 & US 35). We have 2 entrances on Lincolnway for Studios A & B, as well as an entrance from the bank parking lot in the back. Parents - there are plenty of shops & dining spots located nearby or you can wait for your dancer in one of our lobbies.
4. Can I get immediate assistance & customer service?
In many studios, the teacher or the studio owner conducts classes and does the administration. By trying to do two jobs at once, the class may suffer as the teacher has to use class time for customer service issues, or the studio may have no customer service available if the teacher is in a class. To have a good experience, it is important to choose a studio that can assist you with details like schedules or costumes, even if a teacher is occupied in a class. Our studio has office staff on hand during all regular class times, so you can get immediate assistance.
