Class Descriptions

Jazz - Jazz was born from African-American roots. It reflects the spirit and mood of contemporary society as seen in rock, hip hop, rhythm and blues. This class develops style, strength, and flexibility. Styles will vary among teachers.

Hip-Hop - This comtemporary dance style combines Jazz, funk, and house dance with popular Hip Hop styles. This is a very energetic class teaching the latest crazes
.

Tap -
Tap dancing is an American art form. It was born from the blending of several ethnic percussive dance styles brought to the United States, from Africa, England, Ireland, and Scotland, during the 1800's. Tap continues to evolve with innovative and creative new styles. In Tap, the feet become a percussive instrument, creating rhythmic and syncopated sounds. Tap teaches a sense of rhythm, timing, and precision.

Lyrical - This is a newer style of dance that can be described as a cross between ballet and contemporary jazz. It incorporates technique with a flowing style of movement and grace. A little more upbeat than ballet, but not quite as fast as jazz.

Classical Ballet - This is a structured, technical form of dance. This type of dance deals with body positioning and refining artistic, structured movements. Ballet also incorporates balance, strength and flexibility.

Pointe - Pointe is for the intermediate and advanced ballet dancer who has developed the proper placement and strength to dance in pointe shoes.

Dance Intro - This is an introduction to dance and creative movements. It combines pre-ballet, stretching, and an introduction to terminology. This is a very good start to a great dancer.

Adult Dance  - We offer classes in Ballet, Tap & Hip Hop starting with basic beginning level, for both women and men. Come enjoy the fun of dancing while improving flexibility, dexterity, and circulation. It is a great way to keep fit!

Combination Classes  - This is an introduction to dance for you youngest students 3 - 7 years of age. Students learn the disciplines of dance while having fun and promoting physical coordination and mental concentration.

Leaps & Turns - An intensive study of jumps, leaps, and a variety of turns with emphasis on proper body alignment, building strength, and developing flexibility. This class is available at intermediate and advanced levels.

Pilates - Pilates called his method "Contrology", which refers to the way the method encourages the use of the mind to control the muscles. The program focuses on the core postural muscles that help keep the body balanced and are essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and strengthen the deep torso muscles, which are important to help alleviate and prevent back pain.
